De l’erlen’ au fermenteur by Bionet and AD Biotec invites students from BTS Biotechnologies, BTS BioALC, BTS Bioqualité and BTSA ANABIOTEC to take part in a unique learning adventure that connects school projects with real bioprocessing practice.
design and carry out a bench-scale experiment in Erlenmeyer flasks. Each team is free to choose its microorganism and the scientific question it wants to explore. The next step is to design how this process could be scaled up to a bioreactor.
The winning institution of the De l’Erlen’ au Fermenteur competition will receive a Bionet F0-baby bioreactor for the first semester of the 2027–2028 academic year. Bionet and AD Biotec will provide initial training and remote support.
This is a unique chance to bring industry-grade technology into the classroom.
The project is organised by Bionet, a manufacturer of bioreactors and bioprocessing technologies based in Spain, together with AD Biotec, their official representative in France.
Bioprocessing Equipment & Software Manufacturer | BIONET

After registration, you will be added to the Teams channel to:
To carry out an experimental project in an Erlenmeyer flask, then propose a scale-up strategy to a fermenter, in order to win the loan of a Bionet F0 fermenter for one semester.
The contest is open to BTS Bioqualité, BTS Biotechnologies, BTS BioALC or BTSA ANABIOTEC students.
All students can take part. Each school is free to include the students of its choice.
Each school can submit only one application per type of programme.
Yes. Each programme within the same school can submit a project. For example, if a school has both a BTS Biotechnologies and a BTS BioALC, each of the two BTS programmes can take part and submit an application, independently of one another.
There is no limit.
You must fill in the registration form via the contest page at the following link: https://bionet.com/projects/de-lerlen-au-fermenteur-season-2/
No. However, the culture carried out must be microbial.
Teams have complete freedom in the choice of the microorganism and the experimental topic.
The winning school of the De l’Erlen’ au Fermenteur contest will receive a Bionet F0-baby bioreactor for the first semester of the 2027-2028 year. In addition: installation, initial training and remote support provided by Bionet and AD Biotec.
The F0 is a benchtop fermenter developed by Bionet. It is designed for teaching and R&D, allowing fermentation or cell culture under controlled conditions (pH, temperature, agitation, oxygen, etc.).
The winning school will be responsible for the fermenter and may use it as it sees fit. The aim is for as many students and teachers as possible to benefit from it.
The F0 loan lasts one full semester, starting in September 2027.
The evaluation will focus on the scientific relevance of the project, from the design of the experiment to the planning of the scale-up, as well as the quality of communication.
The poster must be submitted in French and in English. The video presentation may be delivered in French or in English. In the case of a pre-recorded video, the use of subtitles, in English for example, is encouraged, as some members of the jury will not be French speakers.
The defence will take place remotely. It will begin with a presentation of 4 minutes maximum, followed by questions from the jury. The presentation may be delivered live, with or without slides, or as a pre-recorded video.
Students only, with no limit on the number. Teachers may under no circumstances speak during the defence, unless invited to do so by the jury.
The jury will be made up of several representatives of Bionet and AD Biotec, with varied specialities (research, engineering, communication, etc.).
